Fabio Torres
Fabio Torres is an accomplished executive leader with over three decades of experience in language access, education, and workforce development. As Executive Director of Language Access Academy, he oversees national training initiatives, curriculum development, and strategic partnerships that support professional interpreters and organizations serving linguistically diverse communities. His leadership is grounded in equity, access, and a deep commitment to quality interpreter education.
Fabio's journey began in Brazil, where he coordinated international public relations and led interpreter operations for the Baptist Convention of Rio de Janeiro, managing over 300 interpreters across 1,000 communities. After relocating to the United States, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Psychology from North Greenville University and a Master of Arts in Church and Community Ministries from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
In the U.S., Fabio served for over 20 years with Catholic Charities Fort Worth and the Translation & Interpretation Network (TIN), where he trained more than 6,000 interpreters and authored specialized programs for healthcare, education, and social service institutions. A certified CoreCHI interpreter, he has also contributed to policy development, including House Bill 233, which established standards for healthcare interpreters in Texas.
Fabio is a recognized thought leader in the field, having served on the boards of the Metroplex Interpreters and Translators Association (MITA) and the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC). He continues to represent Texas as a Commissioner for the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI). Through his work, Fabio champions language access, professional standards, and the empowerment of interpreters nationwide.
